The closing time of standard single control valve is so short that piping systems are often subjected to heavy pressure shock. Water hammer can result in leaks in couplings and connections, or even splintering where the pipes bend. & The faster the closing time, the higher the pressure, the larger the shock.
Marathon uses a hydraulic, soft closing valve that slows down the closing speed. In line pressure is reduced by as much as 300%! In fact, it is impossible to shut down the water flow faster than the soft closing valve allows.
Contained within the patented Marathon cartridge are two precision ground ceramic discs.
Marathon features "turnaround flow design". Water flow is actually wrapped around - not through - the ceramic discs. So, water contact with the ceramics is limited. The lubricants last longer and, therefore, so do the cartridges.
